Mediterranean Textile Mills was founded in 1961 by Bruno Varoli with Italian partners at Hammarsdale, 50km from the coastal city of Durban in Kwazulu-Natal, South Africa.
It is a privately owned vertical mill with spinning, twisting, weaving, dyeing and finishing divisions spread over two factory sites.

On-going investment in equipment has ensured it is one of the most modern plants in Southern Africa, in line with its objective of keeping abreast with the latest international technology.

APPAREL FABRICS
The main business of the company is to produce fabric suitable for apparel, made from a blend of Polyester and Viscose. Linen is sometimes included in the blend, and Lycra is often introduced to give stretch properties to these fabrics. The fabric range includes Piece Dyed as well as Yarn Dyed fabrics, offered in a variety of weaves, colours and finishes in weights ranging from 150 to 250 grams/sqm.

The company also produces melton fabric made from New Wool as well as jacketing fabric from Regenerated Wool and Synthetics.

INDUSTRIAL FABRICS
Recently the company invested in heavy duty Air Jet Looms in order to produce industrial fabrics suitable for tenting, filter fabrics and tarpaulin.

Spinning and Twisting
Yarns are spun on modern automatic machinery in an air-conditioned environment. Yarn quality is monitored using the latest computer technology and compared to worldwide measurement statistics.
Woollen Spinning
Fine South African wools are spun and used to make high quality Melton fabric. In addition, we spin yarn made from regenerated woollen fibre blended with synthetics to make fashionable tweed fabrics.
Weaving
Recently installed computerized sizing and warping equipment enable fine count warp yarns to be woven on rapier and air-jet looms in air-conditioned surroundings. We also weave heavier industrial fabrics on modern air-jet looms equipped with batching motions.
Dyehouse
Comprehensive laboratories, including state of the art colour matching facilities, ensure excellent colour reproduction. Specialised Cold Pad Batch dyeing machinery enables large batches of fabric to be dyed with a high degree of colour consistency within and between batches.
Finishing and Quality Control
Fabrics are offered in a variety of finishes in order to assist product differention. Finished production undergoes extensive laboratory testing and visual inspection to ensure the maintenance of quality standards.

Mediterranean Textile Mills is committed to making high quality fabrics for both its local and international markets. We are confident that innovation, on-going investment, training of our workforce and good service, will enable us to produce quality fabrics competitively.
